Issue Position

My colleagues and I put into law, provisions allowing any military veteran who is honorably discharged to in-state tuition at our colleges and universities through Assembly Bill 260. These brave men and women in many cases, have had no permanent home for at least two years. Nevada will gladly welcome those veterans who honor us by choosing our state to call home, and make their lives easier if they want to pursue a college degree. Additionally, we have passed laws to better protect children in foster care, seniors, and other vulnerable populations.

Homelessness continues to be an issue within Nevada that needs our attention. We need to work on provided more resources to the homeless youth population, to help them receive all their basic needs, and to continue their education. During the 2019 legislative session, I sponsored Assembly Bill 133, which changes the definition of homeless youth as having different needs than the general homeless population. The counties will work with community organizations to find funding in order to help this vulnerable population.
